"Rise from your grave and rescue my daughter." And with that, Zeus, the ruler of the heavens disappears leaving two resurrected centurions to rescue Athena from Demon god Neff.

This is the beginning of Sega's scrolling beat 'em up Altered Beast set in ancient mythological Greece. The gameplay resembles that of Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja but similarities soon end when the player powers up to transform into a beast. Punches turn into fireballs and kicks fly across the screen.

Altered Beast was released for the arcades in 1988 and home ports soon followed. At the time, it was one of the most eye catching titles of the genre.
